Writing Singapore Short Fiction Competition



The Singapore WA Network is interested in fostering strong creative engagements between Singapore and Western Australia.  In view os the succesful inagural competition, SWAN is proud to announce the 2010 Writing Singapore Short Fiction Competition

The competition seeks high quality writing entries that feature a connection with Singapore.  This may include one or more of the following: has a Singaporean setting; has Singaporean characters; shows an understanding or awareness of Singaporeans and their culture, history or identity; or otherwise has some connection with Singapore or Singaporean characters.

Entries are invited from high school students across Western Australia.  The winning and runner-up entries will have their entries published on the Singapore WA Network website www.swan.org.au and will receive generous prizes.

Entrants are asked to read the attached rules and guidelines carefully and to submit their entries to:

Rules and Guidelines

  1. Entrants must be currently enrolled in a Western Australian High School (Year 8-12). Children of the judging panel are not eligible to enter.
  2. Students are encouraged to work with teachers.  However the submitted work must be original.
  3. Writing entries should be more than 1500 words and MUST NOT exceed 3,000 words in length.
  4. Entries must not have been previously published.
  5. Include a title page with your name, identification details (year/ school, etc) and the title of your entry.
  6. Entries should be written on one side of the page only and be submitted on A4 size paper.  They should be stapled or fixed in the top left-hand corner. Only copies of your work should be submitted, not original manuscripts.
  7. The prizes for the Writing Singapore Short Fiction Competition are: First Prize of $300; runner up $150; and an encouragement award of $100.  Prizes are at the discretion of the judges and may not be awarded if they determine entries are not of sufficient merit. The decision of the judging panel will be final.
